Ryan Porter – trumbone

Ryan PorterRyan Porter is an award-winning Trombonist, Composer & Arranger from Los Angeles, California.

Ryan began playing the trombone in high school, studying with acclaimed trombonist John Spencer. After winning numerous scholarships, including The Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz’s Rising Star Scholarship, he continued his music education with numerous jazz greats. He went on to attend the Manhattan School of Music in New York, where his education continued under the tutelage of trombonist Steve Turre.

After returning to Los Angeles, Ryan began his professional career. He has recorded, toured and performed with artists including The Clayton Hamilton Jazz Orchestra, Rihanna, Kanye West, Snoop Dogg, Al Green, Roy Hargrove, Lauryn Hill, Diana Krall, Mariah Carey, Aretha Franklin, Michael Buble, Al Green, Stevie Wonder and Herbie Hancock. He is a founding member of acclaimed Los Angeles-based group, The West Coast Get Down, a collective of musicians who have played together since high school. The WCGD has toured and performed worldwide, and is one of the most recorded bands collectively and individually. The group has a successful and long-running residency at the Piano Bar in Hollywood, a twice-weekly residency that averages over 800 fans on a weekly basis.

Ryan is one of the most in-demand trombonists for recording and touring artists, television shows and film soundtracks. He is a regular trombonist for the American Idol House Band, and has recently toured and recorded with The Kenny Burrell Big Band, Cee Lo Green’s Las Vegas show, The Queen Latifah Show, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Leon Russell featuring the Clayton Hamilton Jazz Orchestra, Michael Bolton, Gloria Estefan, Anthony Hamilton and Jay-Z.
